ABOUT OUR FIRM

In 1932 J. Ewing Smith joined the Honorable John C. Hover in the practice of law, with the firm eventually becoming Hover & Smith on January 1, 1941.

J. MacAlpine (Mac) Smith joined his father at the firm in 1966, and William R. Montgomery joined them in 1971 when the firm then became Smith, Smith & Montgomery. 

Douglas M. Smith, the son of J. MacAlpine Smith, joined the firm in 1992 and Matthew R. Chamberlain joined the firm in 2006, when the firm then became Smith, Smith, Montgomery & Chamberlain, LLC. Kaileigh B. Vermillion joined the firm in 2018. Silas J. Augsburger joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2023. 

Originally the firm was a full spectrum firm, with a broad, small town practice, and it remains so today. 

Presently, Smith, Smith, Montgomery & Chamberlain, LLC assists clients in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust establishment and administration, real estate, civil trial practice, personal injury, and business and transactional law. 

Smith, Smith, Montgomery & Chamberlain, LLC represents individuals, families, and businesses which include several prominent Logan County area companies and organizations, both for profit and not for profit. The firm serves clients in Logan, Union, Champaign, Hardin and other Ohio counties.
